After her mother's death, Ruth struggles to support herself as a seamstress. While Ruth delivers shirts to the factory owner, the owner's son steals some money and Ruth is accused of the crime. She flees the ghetto of New York's Lower East Side and hides in the country where she meets a young farmer.

Mr. Peastone, who drives up in state, gorgeously arrayed, comes upon the party and Johnny and Mary, having stolen away for a little coster love-making, Mr. Peastone induces Sally to come and look at his trap. The girl is delighted with the pony, and accepts Peastone's offer to drive her home. But on the way the young man becomes enterprising and Sally is struggling in his unwelcome embrace when the trap is ...

Her loving family were quick to rally around her, determined to show the same bravery as the little girl as they supported and cherished her through life and struggled to move on after her death at the tragically young age of eight.
